He lives in Austin which is a liberal paradise in conservative Texas. There's no evidence that JVDB is a conservative. He has a lot of kids and can't be making that much. So Texas being cheaper and having more space too is probably what appeals to him and was a practical move.

These Hollywood types never stay anywhere forever. Just as soon as living in Texas gets boring and there's no "newness" about it they'll up and move somewhere else. When you have the money to pull up stakes and go wherever you want, whenever you want, and you're easily bored (as most show biz types are), your willingness to be happy with and find a way to make a go of what you have is greatly decreased.

If that's true for JVDB then that would be incredibly selfish. His kids need stability and security because they're still young. The kids need to make friends their own age and feel attachment to their community. But he and his wife do seem self-absorbed. Look at all the kids they had and how they have to support them on their incomes. It's not like either of them are raking in dough.
