GRAYDON CARTER, the former Vanity Fair editor, and current editor of Airmail magazine, had a lunch reservation at my restaurant, MORANDI yesterday.

It was for 12 people at 1pm. Because Mr Carter's a restaurateur himself, my chef, manager and floor staff were eager for the lunch to go perfectly for him. Extra staff were brought in to help with service, and 2 tables of 6 were meticulously set up and ready for Graydon Carter by 1pm. Only he didn't show up at 1pm. At 1:30 Morandi was packed and people were waiting for tables, but Mr Carter's 2 tables of 6 remained empty.

Around 2pm Graydon Carter's assistant called to say Mr Carter wasn't coming, but the celebrated editor had forgotten to call and cancel. At 2:10 the 2 reserved tables were broken down. By then, Morandi was emptying out and no one needed a table.

By forgetting to call and cancel his party of 12, Mr Carter had upset the equilibrium of the restaurant, and cost the servers money in tips. (And had cost Morandi money too.).

Graydon Carter had done this very same thing before. Once at Minetta Tavern and twice at Balthazar.

Perhaps, being something of a social bigwig, Mr Carter thinks he is above having to cancel restaurant reservations. Perhaps.

But I'll tell you one thing. The fancy Fucker will never be allowed to make a reservation at one of my restaurants again. Never.

We got rid of Piers Morgan and then we got rid of Sharon Osbourne.

Now we need to get rid of James Corden.

He's one of the most annoying cunts ever to grace late-night television. Craig Ferguson was so much better. He's a Brit, but he's been living in America for 30+ years, is a naturalized citizen, and understands American Pop culture better than this asshole.

The talk show host had trouble getting his head around the fact that the average shower lasts around 10 minutes, as his take much less.

“I use soap, but I don’t wash my hair. I wash it every two months,” Corden responded. “That is a true story.”

The Brit was instantly called “dirty” and “nasty” by staffers, prompting Corden to defend his showering habits.

If you manage people, heed this story wisely. Protect your team and have their back, no matter what — a good leader will always step in to first absorb the blows, then neutralize the problem. You never, ever, ever allow your staff to get abused.

I’m glad the owner let the guy have it, but why did it take multiple incidents? Flip side is multiple cases *prove* JC is a full-scale douchebag.

People who treat service workers like slaves are the worst class of human being. The same kind of person as Donald Trump, who hires construction crews to build skyscrapers with his name in gold on them and then refuses to pay the people who risked their lives walking on scaffolding 40 stories high. If I ran a network and learned baoit this type of behavior, I'd fire the person immediately. As a recognizable celebrity, they're an ambassador for your network everywhere they go.

I think some 'canceling' goes too far but I can't think of any excuse or explanation for anyone treating service workers like this other than 'horrible human being who has been given too much and appreciates no one.'

R84/R90 it's interesting that Andy did get banned from the Met Gala for the incident with Corden in 2018 and was only able to go back to attending the event this year.

Andy had pissed off Wintour by blabbing to the press about her pal Corden being drunk at the event. Apparently, despite being besties with SJP and other influential people Andy was unable to get Wintour to reverse the ban until recently. SJP even ended up skipping the event during Andy's exile as they had always attended it together.

James Corden must have had friends intervene on his behalf in addition to his apology.

Corden ruins that campy steampunky early 2010s action-movie take on The Three Musketeers imo. He was cast as the querulous loveable manservant Planchet, but it’s hard to feel for him even when the titular hero make him sleep outside in the rain with birds shitting on his head.

As I recall, DL wasn't forgiving, but JRM has a history of being drunk at the airport and had some pretty high profile drunken episodes, so he clearly has substance abuse/mental health issues. There don't appear to be any extenuating circumstances - possible abuse, growing up in poverty, mental health issues - just a good old fashioned asshole.

It's kept quiet, but Harvey Weinstein played a huge part in bringing his career to the US. Saw him in the Broadway show (for which he won a Tony) and got him a leading role in a biopic, playing that fat opera singer from Britain's Got Talent. The film was of course distributed by the Weinstein Company, and this was around the same time Weinstein started pitching him for hosting gigs before he got the late show. He also got him a role in Begin Again, also distributed by TWC.

Am a Brit who grew up watching Tubby wreck otherwise-entertaining telly, such as his stint as a host on footie quiz League Of Their Own (a post generally filled by awful ‘comedians’, admittedly).

His success could not be more surprising or less warranted, looking at his early screen work. I've actually seen his show more times than I'd care to admit. He gets much bigger stars than he ought to, frankly. (I assume that's because the show is the only one of the network late night talk shows based in LA? Maybe?) So I've tuned in to see them interviewed.

The show is really, really bad. It's just so meh. So bland. All the other hosts have something that sets them apart. James has mehness.

He's very good at ingratiating himself with celebs as if he's one of them. "Oh X person, whenever I run into you at Starbucks, you always look so cheerful, while I look like a grumpy pig. I can see it as a very non-threatening forum to pitch your movie, TV show, book, what have you; no will ask you about your divorce/kid that just got arrested/looming bankruptcy, etc. because he wants to be one of the cool kids. I have a theory.

There are British media people/actors who come to the US and, if they don't perhaps "assimilate", are able to take the temperature of what's acceptable professionally and act accordingly. See Tom Holland as an example.

Then there are the ones for whom every American encounter is an acid-bath reminder that in fact we're not as impressed with the fucking accent as we used to be, thank so you very much. They freak out and start in with the "beneath me" bullshit.

It's probably not a coincidence that Holland's most popular role is him speaking with an American accent.

Both of Corden's parents worked in the entertainment industry. Nothing prestigious, mostly gossip. But I wonder if, somehow, they got enough dirt going deep enough that their son can now can prop up his precarious talent with light blackmailing?

The whiplash on McNally reversing the ban, after going scorched earth on Corden, is weird. Balthazar is basic and perennially buzzy, however unexceptional in the NYC food world. McNally doesn't need Corden's business or forgiveness, but maybe something else happened.

One of the joys (for me) of being a restaurant regular, is that the staff know you- it's like eating at home without the work. They can become like your family. The expectation is that you will get excellent, knowing service, and in return you tip well and act like a human being.

I still can't get over the egg yolk omelette. If you are that allergic to egg whites, why would you order that in a restaurant? Or even eat eggs?
