Storm Debris Cleanup Plan (2024)

The City has confirmed our plan for storm debris cleanup in partnership with Community Waste Disposal. We understand that this storm was severe and widespread, impacting numerous neighborhoods in our community. We also know that many of our residents are dealing with significant debris at their properties that exceed the normal set-out limits under the standard bulk collection guidelines. As a result, the City has made the decision to provide for a special collection at no charge to our residents to help ease the burden occurring at properties throughout the community. We recognize that our residents have different abilities to remove debris, so our plan provides several options for residents to utilize as they clean their properties.

Residents will have the following options for storm cleanup:

  1. CITY-WIDE CURBSIDE COLLECTION: CWD will be conducting a special city-wide collection, picking up storm debris directly from your front curb, beginning this Saturday, June 1. This collection will be no extra charge for residents.
  2. DROP OFF LOCATIONS: Residents may drop off storm debris in roll-off containers staged at Heritage Park and Whitt Elementary (see maps). CWD will be hauling off and replacing bins as necessary.
  3. HINTON LANDFILL: Sachse residents can always drop off storm debris at the Hinton Landfill and Wood Waste Center at no charge. Please be prepared to show two forms of ID with your Sachse address (Drivers License and a utility bill are acceptable). The landfill will accept any storm debris, with no limits on load size.

CURBSIDE COLLECTION INFO:

  • Please do your best to place material at the curb by Saturday, June 1 to ensure a timely pickup. Should you not have material out in time, please contact CWD and they will do their best to get back to you. Please keep in mind this is a City-wide event, and completing the initial sweep will be the main priority.
  • Place piles at your front curb, out of the street and away from cars, trees, mail boxes, fire hydrants, etc. Piles that are placed too close to property will not be picked up to avoid property damage.
  • Piles do not need to be bundled, but we kindly request that you keep them organized as best you can and cut limbs down to approximately 10 ft lengths, if possible, to help crews be more efficient. Remember, cutting the limbs helps CWD move faster through this process.
  • If possible, please haul exceedingly heavy tree trunks/stumps to the drop off locations. This will help move curbside collections along more swiftly.
  • Please pile fencing, bagged leaves, and other debris separately from brush.
  • Please be mindful of roadway visibility as you pile brush. If brush is stacked high on a corner, it can reduce visibility for drivers as they turn and cause a safety hazard.
  • This storm collection is for storm debris for residential customers only. Commercial customers, including apartments, should use their paid commercial services to remove and haul off debris.
  • Professional tree-trimming services must continue to haul their own debris.
  • Please do not add any items beyond storm debris to this collection. Please wait to place regular bulk trash out until your regularly scheduled bulk/brush collection day. To look up your regular collection, use CWD's search tool: bit.ly/49YrX2V

Due to the significant volume of debris in Sachse, we urge all residents who are able to please drop off at the Hinton Landfill or the drop-off locations. This will help curbside collections to move along quicker, allowing residents who are unable to drop off to be serviced faster.

SCHEDULE:

  • CWD will be sweeping the entire City for storm debris beginning Saturday, June 1, weather permitting. Please be aware that MANY of our residents have extensive storm debris. It will take time to reach every neighborhood, especially with continuing weather conditions. The City will monitor the situation and work with CWD to move things as fast as possible, but we do ask for your patience in advance considering the volumes in Sachse.
  • CWD will not be following the typical pickup schedule or zones for this special storm debris collection, though we anticipate that we will also have normal bulk zones as scheduled as well. We will post updates regarding which areas have been collected as CWD reports to us.
  • If your collection is missed when your street is services, please check to make sure your piles are not close to any trees, cars, mailboxes, etc. and contact CWD customer service at 972-392-9300/Option 2. They will arrange for trucks to come back for your missed pickup. Please be aware that this is a City-wide event, and completing the initial sweep will be the main priority.
  • CWD will continue regularly scheduled trash, recycling, and bulk/brush collection pickup during this time.

VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE:

While City staff are limited in our ability to conduct work on private property, we do understand that many residents may need help with the damage and we want to connect you with available volunteers to help. If you need assistance cutting tree limbs and piling debris, Sachse Fire-Rescue is coordinating volunteer efforts to connect residents in need of assistance with available volunteers and organizations. Please call 972-495-0975 to request assistance or if you are an organization or individual interested in volunteering. Please note that these services are not provided by the City of Sachse. We will make every effort to connect residents with the resources they need, but we cannot guarantee assistance. Volunteers cannot provide services that require a licensed tradesman such as plumbing or electrical work.

Thank you so much for your continued patience as we have worked diligently to coordinate and plan for cleanup. Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns, and we will do our best to assist.
