VC's Corner
Endless summer
Dear Infrastructure and Sustainability team,
This month we welcome chancellor Justin Schwartz to our CU family. I have had several opportunities to meet with him, and I am excited for the future of our campus. Sustainability ranks high on his list of priorities, so I eagerly anticipate seeing how he contributes to advancing our Climate Action Plan goals.
Come join us for the 2024 CU employee softball tournament on July 18 and 19. If you aren’t playing, please come cheer on your colleagues! Go team I&S!
I am looking forward to our annual I&S staff appreciation summer picnic on July 25. This will be a zero-waste event thanks to our party planning team. I encourage you to weave zero-waste opportunities into your lives outside of this event!
Although most students aren’t on campus at this time of year, our teams are busier than ever. Thank you for your dedication to working behind the scenes to ensure operations run smoothly and the campus looks as beautiful as ever.
With gratitude,
Chris Ewing, vice chancellor for infrastructure and sustainability

Employee Spotlight
Seth Turner - Materials Handler I, Distribution
How long have you been working at CU?I’ve been with Property Services for about 8 months now, since August of last year.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?Outside of work I love to work with and on computers. If I’m not playing video games, I’m working on coding projects, running IT support for friends and family or just keeping up with the latest news in technology.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you. While I love technology, it may surprise people that I’ve always been a bit of a jock. Before getting injured in high school, I was a starting varsity football linebacker and baseball second baseman. I also BMX and used to play hockey as well.
What do you love about CU Boulder? What I really love about CU Boulder is the amazing opportunities to grow, not just as an employee, but as a person. I’ve learned more skills and connected better with peers in my short time here than I could have ever gotten elsewhere.
What is your favorite type of music?I’ll listen to just about any genre of music, but my favorites have to be alternative and indie rock.
Safety Toolbox
Be safe while driving
As we discuss safety during meetings or with our family friends, one topic that is not addressed as often as it should be is vehicle safety. Driving a vehicle on campus, whether it be a golf cart or university vehicle, is just as important as operating your personal vehicle. Our campus is always buzzing with activity even during the summer months while the students are away from campus.
A few safety best practices include
- Wear your seatbelt
- Put your phone away (including the earbuds)
- Look out for pedestrians
- Give yourself extra time while driving on campus or commuting to work
- Think about how “your choices behind the wheel matter”
Continue to stay safe out there!
FM Safety Committee
The FM safety committee meets the third Tuesday of every month to discuss general safety concerns, review safety reports and on-the-job injuries and recommend training needs and resources. If you are interested in attending a meeting or bringing an issue or idea that is safety related, please reach out to your area representative on the FM safety committee or contact our Safety Specialist Don Fitzpatrick.
